Track and Field Earns 21 Entries at NCAA Preliminary Rounds

Twenty University of Louisville track and field student-athletes make up 21 entries for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced Thursday.
The event runs from May 28-30 at North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Tickets for the meet are currently on sale, and all seating is general admission. Tickets can be purchased by calling the North Florida ticket office at (904) 620-2473 or visiting the school's athletics website. On meet day, tickets will be able to be purchased at the gate starting one hour prior to the first event.
The women's squad has 10 student-athletes competing while the men's squad qualified nine student-athletes.
Sophomore Emmonnie Henderson will double in both the shot put and the discus. She ranks in the top 15 in the nation in both events, including eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 57.54m/188-9. Henderson won the conference title in both the shot put and the discus throw. She was named the ACC Women's Field MVP.
In addition to Henderson, three female throwers earned spots at the preliminary rounds. Caitlin Gilmore, Dolly Nyemah and Rachel Serafin will all compete in the hammer throw. Gilmore is the ACC runner-up after throwing a personal best of 58.00m/190-3 in the event. Nyemah also earned All-ACC honors, finishing sixth with a personal best throw of 56.75m/186-2. Serafin won the event at the Florida Relays with a personal best mark of 57.75/189-6.
On the men's side, Isaac Bowling will compete in the shot put while Brad Vivace will participate in the hammer throw. Bowling threw a personal best of 17.89/58-8.5 at the Florida Relays to finish fourth. He won the event at the Tennessee Challenge. Vivace threw a personal best of 63.01m/206-9 at the ACC Championships, earning All-ACC honors with a fifth place finish.
Three distance runners will be competing at the event. Edwin Kibichiy and Benadate Cheruiyot will both compete in the 3,000m steeplechase while Ernest Kibet will compete in the 10,000m. Kibichiy has the third fastest time in the nation with a time of 8:33.78 at the ACC Championships. He won the event for his first ACC title. Cheruiyot broke and re-broke the school record in the event with a time of 10:16.35 at the ACC Championships. She finished fifth in the event, earning All-ACC honors. Cheruiyot will make her third straight preliminary appearance. Kibet won the 10,000m at the ACC Championships with a season best time of 29:40.19 to become the first of five ACC event winners.
The Cardinals have six competing in the jumping events. Ben Williams will be making his first appearance at the event in the triple jump after finishing third in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Williams has the fifth best jump in the nation with a mark of 16.38m/53-9 from the Cardinal Twilight this season. He won the triple jump at the ACC Championships last week with a jump of 16.30m/53-5.75.
Brittany Owens will also be competing in the triple jump, her second consecutive appearance in the preliminaries but her first in the triple jump. Owens had a personal best mark of 12.51m/41-0.5 at the ACC Championships, earning All-ACC honors with a fifth place finish.
Bre'Yana Wash will be making her first appearance in the event, competing in the long jump. She finished with a personal best mark of 6.25m/20-6.25 at the Cardinal Twilight. Wash has won the event three times this season and finished sixth at the ACC Championship to earn All-ACC honors.
Chanel Krause will be competing in the pole vault for the second straight season. Krause cleared a season best of 4.12m/13-6.25 at the Georgia Tech Invitational to win the event. She has won the event three times this season. She finished sixth at the ACC Championships with a mark of 4.11m/13-5.75 to earn All-ACC honors.
Senior Maggie Gilbertson will be making her second career appearance in the preliminary rounds, she will compete in the high jump. She cleared a season best mark of 1.76m/5-9.25 at the Georgia Tech Invitational for a fifth place finish. She has won the event twice this year.
Freshman Javen Reeves will also be competing in the high jump. Reeves won the event at the Cardinal Twilight with a personal best mark of 2.07m/6-9.5. He finished fifth in the high jump at the ACC Championships to earn All-ACC honors.
Calvin Arsenault is the veteran of the five sprinters who will compete. Arsenault will compete in his fourth straight preliminary event. He set a new meet record at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a season best time of 51.68 in the 400m hurdles. He has won the event twice this season.
A trio of sprinters will compete in the men's 400m dash. Freshman Josh Hall is the school record holder in the event. He broke and re-broke the record with a personal best time of 46.68 in the ACC prelims to advance to the finals. The freshman has won the event twice this season.
Antoine Keys ran a personal best time of 46.99 in the 400m in the Cardinal Twilight to finish second. Andrew Nsuk finished third at the Cardinal Twilight in the 400m with a personal best time of 47.07.
Sophomore Kayla Tyson will be making her first appearance in the NCAA Preliminary Round. She will compete in the 100m dash. At the ACC Championships, Tyson ran a personal best time of 11.69 in the 100m to earn All-ACC honors.
