LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville freshman Nicole Woods has been selected to USA Field Hockey's U19 team roster for its upcoming Belgium Tour. The team will face the Belgium Junior National Team as well as Club Push in Holland from April 4-10.
"I'm definitely really excited because this is my first year making it this far for the USA," said Woods. "I've never been overseas before... this will be a really good opportunity to play with some of the best players not only in the US, but we'll have the opportunity to play against some quality competition."
As a freshman, the forward from Beverly, Mass., played in all 21 games with 14 starts for the Cards. She scored three goals and dished out four assists to help Louisville to a 15-6 overall record. The Cards were ranked as high as No. 5 in the NFHCA coaches' poll and finished the season at No. 10 after spending the last six weeks ranked in the top 10. UofL earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, but fell 2-1 in overtime to Stanford in the first round.
"We are so proud of Nicole and her accomplishments to date," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "Nicole is a talented young player and she has worked tirelessly to get herself to this point in her young career. Representing your country is no easy feat and I am sure she will represent the USA and the University of Louisville with great honor and pride."
"Since I've been here, I've learned so much and that has helped me get through the process of being selected for this team," said Woods. "The girls have been so supportive in teaching me what they know. The coaches have been 100 percent supportive through all of this. The amount I've learned in the past eight months has been like no other."
