LOUISVILLE, Ky. - One of the top international golfers, Simon Zach signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday to continue his career at the University of Louisville, head coach Mark Crabtree announced.
Hailing from Prague, Czech Republic, Zach is one of the top 250 players in the world rankings, and is listed as one of the top two players in the Czech Republic.
"Being able to sign a player like Simon Zach is a tremendous asset to our program," Crabtree said. "This will be a great addition to our team and he will have a huge impact. We are very excited to have Simon as part of the Cardinal golf team."
Last year, Zach shot a 275 at the Eisenhower Trophy (World Amateur), steering the Czech National Team to its best finish at the event.
As a junior player, Zach won the Czech Junior Championship and captured the Czech national men's match play championship. The following year, Zach won the Slovakian men's championship, shooting a remarkable 62 in the last round, setting the course record.
As a youth, Zach won the Czech National Championship U-12 twice at the age of 11 and 12, before going on to win the Czech U-14 the following year. At the age of 14, Zach finished runner-up in the Slovenian Amateur Championship.
Recently, Zach attempted to qualify to the Q school for the European Tour, but missed the cut by two shots.
