LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The University of Louisville men's golf team begins postseason play on Friday, when the Cardinals compete in their inaugural ACC Men's Golf Championship at The Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
The 54-hole, three-day event will continue Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 course north of Charlotte, N.C. This marks the 14th consecutive year and the 19th time overall that the ACC Tournament has been held at The Old North State Club.
The ACC features 12 schools, including four ranked in the top 25 and 10 ranked in the top 50 according to the this week's Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Florida State is ranked No. 1 in the nation, while defending ACC champion Georgia Tech stands at No.10. Individually, six of the top 25 players will also compete this weekend. Louisville is ranked 44th overall.
Coming off a second-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational last weekend, UofL head coach Mark Crabtree feels good about his squad and is looking forward to taking his team to one of the most competitive championships in the country.
"We are looking forward to our first ACC Championship," Crabtree said. "It's a tremendous field led by Florida State, the No. 1 ranked team in the country. We had a very good performance last week at the Purdue Invitational and I like the progress that I`ve seen the past month. We look to continue that into this championship and the post-season."
Crabtree will be seeking his third league title in 16 seasons, winning the BIG EAST title in 2006-07 and 2008-09.
Junior Robin Sciot-Siegrist, who ranks 15th in the ACC in scoring average, is one of the top contenders in the league. He is coming off a fifth-place finish last weekend and owns a stellar 71.26 scoring average this season.
Fans can follow the scoring on the ACC Tournament starting Friday at Golfstat.com. ESPN3 will provide coverage on the tournament on Saturday (3-5 p.m.) and Sunday (1-3:30 pm.).
