Track and Field Hosts ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Saturday

This Week: The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams continue outdoor competition as they host the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Saturday at Cardinal Park. Notre Dame joins the Cardinals in representing the ACC while Indiana and Michigan State will represent the Big Ten Conference. The meet will feature two schools ranked in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA Poll. Michigan State's women's team is ranked No. 26 while Notre Dame's women's team is ranked No. 28.
The one-day event begins on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and women's shot put at Throws Field. Running events are scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles preliminaries.
Up Next: Louisville hits the road and continues competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational next weekend in Atlanta on April 17-18.
SEASON NOTES:
Wash Goes Long: Sophomore Bre'Yana Wash continued her winning ways with her second consecutive long jump victory. She finished first at the Florida Relays with a personal best mark of 6.16m/20-2.50 after winning at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational the week before.
Cheruiyot Resets School Record: At the Florida Relays, junior Benadate Cheruiyot set the school record in the 3000m steeplechases with a time of 10:19.38. She broke the previous school record of 10:19.64 that she set at the AAC Championships in 2014.
Relay Team Breaks School Record: The team of Jeron Brown, Andrew Nsuk, Teague Peck, and Josh Hall continued their momentum, once again breaking the school record. The four finished with a time of 3:11.07, breaking their previous school record of 3:12.93 that was set at the Alabama Relays last month.
Arsenault Breaks Own Record: At the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational, senior Calvin Arsenault posted two wins and a new meet and school record. In the 110m hurdles, Arsenault raced to the finish line in 13.83 which broke the school record that he previously set back in 2012, when he finished with a time of 13.99.
Cards Race to the Finish Line: At the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational, the Louisville track teams fought through the cold and posted seven wins. Calvin Arsenault paced the Cards with two victories in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles in 53.19. Brianne Brown won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.47. Claire Noser competed in her first 3000m steeple chase of the season and took first place with a time of 11:00.99. The women's 4x100m relay team of Alexis Murry, Kayla Tyson, Taylor Bradley, and Wash won their event in a time of 47.31. Teague Peck took the 800m in 1:53.90 while Zachery Main raced to the finish line first in the 200m dash in 21.93.
Cards Show Success in Field Events: In the first home meet of the season, the Louisville track and field teams posted 12 wins on the final day of competition, with the Cardinals claiming five field events at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational. The Cardinal women swept the jumping events. Brittany Owens won the triple jump with mark of 11.90m/39-0.5 while Maggie Gilbertson posted a victory in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m/5-6. Bre'Yana Wash took first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.68m/18-7.75. The Cardinals also swept both pole vault events with Chanel Krause and Jacob Marguet (4.83m/15-10) taking first place finishes.
Relay Squads Set Tone at Alabama Relays: In their first outdoor competition of the season at the Alabama Relays, the Cardinals set five new school relay records. Both distance squads, both 4x200 relay teams, as well as the men's 4x400 relay squad set school records in their events.
Distance Teams Break School Records: The Cardinals broke three school records on the final day of the Alabama Relays with the distance medley teams breaking two of them. The men's distance team of Andrew Stewart, Carlos Coleman, Teague Peck, and Edwin Kibichiy took first place with a time of 9:50.96 breaking the 39 year record of 10:09.00 that was set in 1976 at the Florida Relays. The women's distance team of Michelle Molodynia, Zahara Gully, Mia Ross, and Benadate Cheruiyot finished third in the event with a time of 11:38.72, eclipsing the previous school record of 11:51.96 that was set in 1995 at the Alabama Relays.
Relay Team Continues Momentum: After a fourth place finish at the ACC Championships to conclude the indoor season, the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Andrew Nsuk, Jeron Brown, Teague Peck, and Josh Hall carried their momentum to the outdoor season with a new school record. The four raced to the finish with a time of 3.12.93 that broke the previous record of 3:13.12 that was set at the 2006 BIG EAST Championship.
Cards Show Speed in 4x200 Relays: Both Cardinal 4x200 meter relay teams set school records at the Alabama Relays. The team of Alexis Murry, Kayla Tyson, Taylor Bradley, and Bre'Yana Wash finished sixth with a time of 1:39.34. Their time broke the previous record of 1:41.55 that was set at the Alabama Relays in 2000. The men's team composed of Josh Hall, Antoine Keys, Andrew Nsuk, and Carlos Coleman finished seventh with a time of 1:26.86. They broke the school record of 1:27.27 that was also set at the Alabama Relays back in 2004.
