
Lacrosse Announces 2016 Schedule

Cardinals will once again face a tough slate in 2016
The University of Louisville women's lacrosse head coach Kellie Young released the Cardinals' 2016 schedule, highlighted by seven teams that finished the season ranked in the Top 20 in 2015.Â
The Cardinals are coming off a 10-8 season and their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Louisville finished the season ranked No. 18 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll. The squad kicks off their ninth season in school history with a nine game home slate in 2016. The season opener will be on a Feb. 6 against Marquette at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium.
Louisville makes its first road trip of the season the next weekend when they head east to face Temple and Duquesne. They will then return home to face Denver on February 20 before travelling to Vanderbilt on Feb. 23 for a midweek game.Â
The will open up ACC play on Feb. 27 as they host Boston College in U of L Lacrosse Stadium. The Cardinals lost a heartbreaker 16-15 in overtime to the Eagles. Boston College finished last season ranked No. 10 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll. The game begins a stretch of matchups with four opponents ranked in the Top 15 last season.Â
On March 3 they will host Northwestern. The game will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament game where the Cardinals fell 10-7 at Northwestern. Wildcats finished last season ranked sixth. They will then host Notre Dame on March 5. Last season the Cardinals defeated the Fighting Irish 10-8 in South Bend. Notre Dame finished last season ranked No. 14.
Louisville will then travel to Duke on March 12. Last season Duke handed the Cardinals a tough 10-8 loss at home. The Blue Devils finished the season ranked No. 4 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll after advancing to the Final Four.
The Cardinals will take a break from ACC play with three consecutive games against nonconference opponents. The will travel to Canisius on March 16. Louisville will return home to host Coast Carolina on March 20. They will wrap up the three game stint at Cincinnati on March 22.Â
Louisville returns home to host Virginia Tech on March 26. The Cardinals defeated Virginia Tech 15-6 last season in Blacksburg. On March 30 they will host Brown before travelling to North Carolina. The Cardinals will face NCAA runner-up North Carolina in Raleigh on April 9. The Tar Heels finished last season ranked No. 2 after falling to Maryland in the national championship last year.
The Cards will host Virginia in the final home game of the season on April 16. The Cardinals fell at Virginia last season 17-9. The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 11 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll. Louisville will wrap up the regular season at Syracuse on April 23.Â

The ACC Tournament, which will be hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., begins with the first round on Apr. 28, semifinals held on Apr. 29 and the title game being held on May 1. All games will be played at Thompson Field on Virginia Tech's campus.
