No. 22 Volleyball Set to Host Pitt and Virginia Tech

The No. 22 University of Louisville volleyball team returns home for two key conference matches this weekend. Both matches will be televised on CardsTV with the Cardinals hosting Pittsburgh on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Despite snapping a ten-game winning streak with a loss to North Carolina, the Cardinals moved up one spot and are tied with San Diego in the No. 22 spot in this week's AVCA Coaches Poll.
Louisville enters the week with a 17-5 overall record and an 11-1 record in conference play. Last weekend, the Cardinals fell to North Carolina 3-1 but rebounded with a 3-0 victory over North Carolina State. Against North Carolina, the Cardinals fell 25-18, 11-25, 22-25, 22-25 to end their ten match unbeaten streak in ACC play. Erin Fairs led the team with 14 kills with Aniah Philo adding 10. Janelle Jenkins posted a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs while adding three blocks. Katie George recorded a double-double with a match-high 45 assists and 12 digs. Molly Sauer added 17 digs for the Cardinals. Against North Carolina State, Janelle Jenkins had a match-high 13 kills to lead the Cardinals to a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 rebound victory over the Wolfpack. Louisville hit .393 with nine blocks and three aces. Tess Clark had nine kills and six blocks with Erin Fairs adding eight kills and two blocks. Katie George added five kills of her own along with a match-high 37 assists.
On the season, Louisville ranks first in the conference and fifth in the nation with 14.67 kills per set with senior outside hitter Erin Fairs leading the Cardinal attack with 310 kills and averaging 3.92 kills per set, which is third in the conference. Junior outside hitter Janelle Jenkins adds 254 kills while sophomore middle blocker Tess Clark adds 167 kills and boasts a team-high 82 blocks. Clark also leads the ACC and is sixth in the nation with a .438 attack percentage. Senior setter Katie George has dished out 953 assists on the season and is ranked fourth in the nation while leading the ACC with an average of 12.06 assists per set. Louisville is second in the ACC with 16.51 digs per set. Freshman libero Molly Sauer has 354 digs (4.48 digs per set) and leads the team with 23 aces. As a team, Louisville holds opponents to a .164 hitting percentage, which is best in the conference.
First up for the Cardinals this weekend is Pittsburgh on Friday night. The Panthers enter the weekend with a 19-5 overall record and a 9-3 record in conference play. Last weekend, the Panthers gave No. 15 Florida State their first loss in conference play with a 3-0 victory and then followed up the victory with a sweep over Miami. Pittsburgh stands second in the conference with 14.50 kills per set and is first in the ACC with 13.84 assists per set. Outside hitter Kadi Kullerkann leads the Panthers attack with 308 kills and averages 3.58 kills per set. Sophomore outside hitter Mariah Bell contributes 222 kills and team-high 23 aces while senior middle hitter Amanda Orchard adds 205 kills on a .426 attack percentage, which is second in the conference and 10th in the nation. Senior setter Jenna Jacobson (618 assists) and freshman setter Kamalani Akeo (423 assists) split time in setting up the offense that is fourth in the nation with 13.84 assists per set. Redshirt freshman libero Angela Seman leads the Panthers with 396 digs and averages 4.60 digs per set which is third best in the ACC. Louisville leads the series with the Panthers 12-8 but the Panthers took both meetings last season.

The Hokies enter the weekend with an overall record of 14-10 and a 5-7 record in conference play. Virginia Tech comes into the weekend on a three-game skid including a 3-2 loss to Miami and a 3-0 loss to No. 15 Florida State last weekend. For the season, junior outside hitter Lindsey Owens leads the Hokies with 311 kills and averages 3.38 kills per set. Owens also boasts a team-high 24 aces and adds 269 digs (2.92 digs per set) for the Hokies. Junior outside hitter Amanda McKinzie is second on the team with 292 kills and is third on the team with 217 digs. Senior outside hitter Kennedy Bryan adds 217 kills for the team. Redshirt freshman setter Rhegan Mitchell sees the most action as the setter and has 732 assists (7.96 assists per set) with sophomore Kyra Coundoruides also seeing time and has 258 assists (3.49 assists per set). Senior libero Kenedy McGrath leads the team with 343 digs and averages 3.73 digs per set. The Cardinals lead the series 18-2 with Hokies including last year's 3-2 victory at Virginia Tech
