
Track and Field Announces 2015-16 Schedule

Cardinals will host two home meets in April
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- On Wednesday, head coach Dale Cowper announced the track and field team's 2015-16 indoor and outdoor schedules, highlighted by two home meets in Cardinal Park.Â

"Both squads have been working hard throughout the fall semester and look forward to beginning our competitive season in December," said Cowper. "We believe both teams will show tremendous improvement from last year's group that broke over 20 school records. This year's schedule is designed to meet the competitive needs of every student-athlete in the program."

Louisville begins the indoor portion of its schedule at the Vanderbilt Open on Dec. 5. After taking time off for winter break, the Cards will return to action with the UK Invite on Jan. 15-16 in Lexington, Ky. Last year at the UK Invite, Josh Hall won the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.85 and was also a key component of the 4x400 relay team that picked up a victory. Hall was joined by teammates Antoine Keys, Jeron Brown, and Carlos Coleman to clock a first place finish of 3:17.06.

Following the UK Invite, the Cards will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan 22-23. They will then travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Relays. At the IU Relays last year, the Cardinals recorded six wins. Nick Kennedy picked up his first collegiate victory with a jump of 7.04m in the long jump. Hall continued his strong start to his collegiate career with a victory in the 400 meter dash. Ben Williams recorded a win in the triple jump with a mark of 16.05m in his season opener and Bre'Yana Wash picked up a victory in the long jump with a mark of 5.92m.

In the first weekend of February, the Cards will travel to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Multi-Events on Feb. 5-6. The following weekend, the Cardinals will compete in their final indoor meet before the ACC Championships with the Samford Invitational on Feb. 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
After a weekend off, the Cardinals will then travel to Boston, Mass., to compete in its second ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-27. In the first season as an ACC member, the Cardinal men finished ninth while the women finished 12th. Chanel Krause became the first Cardinal to medal at the ACC Championships with a third-place finish in the pole vault.

Birmingham, Ala. will host the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11-12. Last season, Louisville had two athletes receive All-America honors after competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Williams finished third in the triple jump and was named first team while Dolly Nyemah finished 12th in the weight throw and was named second team.

Louisville kicks off their outdoor season with a trip to Tampa, Fla. for the USF Bulls Invitational on March 17-18. After a weekend off, Louisville is scheduled to split squads as a group will head to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Last season, Louisville competed at the Florida Relays and recorded three victories. Rachel Serafin picked up a victory in the hammer throw and Wash recorded a first-place finish in the long jump. Edwin Kibichiy won the 3,000m steeplechase.

The next weekend, the Cardinals will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Tennessee Relays. Multi-event athletes Linda Mutter and Eric Fox finished the meet with second place finishes and both came close to breaking school records. Mutter finished second in the heptathlon while Fox took second in the decathlon.

The following weekend, the Cardinals will host their first outdoor meet of the season with the Louisville Invitational in Cardinal Park on Apr. 15-16. Louisville continues their home schedule as they host the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational the following weekend at Cardinal Park. Louisville won 12 events last season.

Louisville wraps up the regular outdoor season before the postseason with the Memphis Invite on Apr. 30 and then the Rankin/Poehlein 4-Way Invite in the first weekend of May in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Cardinals begin outdoor postseason competition with the ACC Outdoor Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 13-15. The Cardinal women finished sixth while the men finished eighth in their first ACC Outdoor Championships appearance. Ernest Kibet became the first Cardinal to be crowned ACC Champion as he won the 10,000m. Â Kibichiy won the 3,000m steeplechase by setting an ACC Championship record time of 8:33.78. Emmonnie Henderson won both the shot put and the discus, earning ACC Outdoor Women's Field MVP honors.

Louisville's student-athletes who qualify for postseason competition will participate in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Rounds in Jacksonville, Fla. The event runs from May 26-28 and will be held on the campus of the University of North Florida. The pinnacle of the outdoor season, the NCAA Division Outdoor Championships, will be held in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field from June 8-11. The four-day event will be hosted by the University of Oregon. Three Cardinals picked up All-America honors with their performances last season with Henderson and Williams picking up first team honors and Kibichiy picking up second team All-America honors.

Following the NCAA Division I Championships, athletes continue their preparation for the 2016 Olympics with the USATF Junior Championships in Folsom, Calif., on June 24-26 and the US Olympic Trials from July 1-10 in Eugene, Ore.

The Cardinals return five All-Americans to this year's squad - Kibichiy, Henderson, Williams, Nyemah, and Kibet.
