• Friday marked just the second meeting all-time between Louisville and Samford with the Cardinals winning both games.
TEAM
• Louisville extended its winning streak in season-openers to 12 games and has won 21 of its last 23 openers overall.
• Rick Pitino improved to 27-3 in his career in season-opening games as a collegiate head coach.Â
• The 41-point win on Friday marked the largest margin of victory in a season-opener for Louisville since a 54-point triumph over South Alabama (92-38) on Nov. 18, 2001-02 – Rick Pitino's first game as head coach of the Cardinals.
• The Cardinals limited Samford to just 21.0 percent shooting from the field (13-for-62), the lowest for an opponent since Savannah State made only 19.6 percent (10-of-52) on Nov. 24, 2014.
• The 45 points for the Bulldogs were the fewest allowed by Louisville to open a season since a 79-41 win over Morehead State on Nov. 22, 2008.
• The Cardinals finished with their highest point total in a season-opener since an 88-73 victory over Butler Nov. 16, 2010.
• The five assists for Samford were the fewest for a U of L opponent since Savannah State had just three in last year's game.
• Louisville produced four runs of 8-0 or better on Friday – 10-0 and 8-0 runs in the first half and two 11-0 runs in the second half. Last season, the Cardinals had 52 runs of 8-0 or better, while in 2013-14, they had 68 runs of 8-0 or better.
• The Cardinals improved to 160-9 over the last 15 seasons under Rick Pitino when scoring 80 or more points.
• Louisville moved to 127-6 in the last 15 seasons when shooting 50 percent or better from the field.
• The Cardinals moved to 82-13 all-time at KFC Yum! Center, now in its sixth season as the home of Louisville basketball.
PLAYER
• Freshman guard Donovan Mitchell came off the bench and registered the sixth highest scoring performance in a Louisville debut finishing with 14 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field and a 5-of-6 night from the free throw line in 17 minutes.
• The 14 points by Mitchell equaled the same total by Chane Behanan in his Louisville debut against UT Martin on Nov. 11, 2011. Jerry Smith holds the Louisville record for points scored in a debut with 24 against Northwestern State on Nov. 18, 2006.
• After not scoring and being limited to just three minutes of action in the first half because of two early fouls, Damion Lee matched Mitchell with a team-high 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field and pulled down five rebounds in 20 minutes.
• Sophomore Chinanu Onuaku scored 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field marking the third time in his collegiate career he has finished 5-of-5.
• The 11 points for Onuaku were just one point shy of his career high of 11 points against Jacksonville State on Nov. 17, 2014.
• Onuaku also had five blocked shots on Friday, the third most in a game in his career and the most since his career-best seven swats against Cleveland State on Nov. 26, 2014.
• Sophomore guard Quentin Snider reached double figures in scoring for the seventh time in his last 12 games after finishing with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field.
• Sophomore forward Jaylen Johnson scored a career-best eight points, one more than his previous beset of seven against Savannah State on Nov. 24, 2014.
• Johnson was 4-for-6 from the field setting career highs in both shots made and shots attempted. Last season, he made three shots and attempted four shots in three different games.
• Johnson equaled a career-high with five rebounds matching the total set against Savannah State.
• Six players made their Louisville debuts on Friday – graduate students Damion Lee and Trey Lewis and freshmen Deng Adel, Jay Henderson, Donovan Mitchell and Ray Spalding.
