Track and Field Travels to IU Relays This Weekend

This Week: The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams return to competition this weekend as they head north to Bloomington, Ind., for the IU Relays in a two-day event. Field events are scheduled to start on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the women's weight throw and running events are slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. with trials for the women's 60m hurdles.
The meet concludes on Saturday with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m. and track events are slated to start at 10:50 a.m. with the men's 60m dash.
SEASON NOTES
Krause Leaps to School Record: Sophomore Chanel Krause broke a school record by clearing 4.10m/13' 5.25" in the pole vault at the Vanderbilt Invitational breaking the previous school record of 3.96m/12' 11.75" that was set by Jacey Hughes in 2006. Krause's showing in the event landed her a fourth place finish.
Relay Team Breaks School Record: Another school record was shattered at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The men's 4x400 relay squad composed of Antoine Keys, Jeron Brown, Austin Hyden, and Josh Hall were clocked at 3:14.60 which was good for a fourth place finish. The time broke the previous school record of 3:15.12 in 2013.
Cards Go the Distance: Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet, both of whom are also cross-country runners, displayed strong performances in the 3000m at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Kibichiy garnered a second place finish with a time of 18:05.94 while Kibet finished seventh with a time of 18:20.87 in his first meet of the season.
Multiple Cards Break Personal Bests: Along with school records being broken at the Vanderbilt Invitational, multiple Cardinals broke their personal best records. Dolly Nyemah has shown improvement every weekend and surpassed her previous best in the weight throw at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Her throw of 20m/65' 7.5" surpassed her previous mark of 19.79m/64' 11.25" that was set the weekend before. Eric Fox set his personal best in the pole vault clearing 4.45m/14' 7.25" and Cain Cooper cleared 4.30m/14' 1.25" which was also his personal best. Taylor Bradley set a personal best in the 400m with a time of 56.59. Calvin Arsenault had a season best in the 60m hurdles with a fourth place finish with a time of 8.14. Carlos Coleman set a personal best in the 400m with a time of 49.14. Teague Peck ran a personal best time of 1:54.55 in the 800m. Jeron Brown (7.13m/23' 4.75") and Nick Kennedy (7.06m/23' 2") set season best marks in the long jumps.
Hall Continues Strong Start: At the UK Invite, freshman Josh Hall continued his strong start with the Cardinals with a win in the 400m with a season-best time of 47.84. Hall was also a member of the 4x400 relay along with Antoine Keys, Jaron Brown, and Carlos Coleman which finished first in 3:17.06. Along with the two wins, he also placed third in the 200m with a season-best time of 21.93.
Vivace Throws Personal Best: Senior Brad Vivace kicked off the 2015 indoor season with a personal best in the weight throw at the UK Invite. Vivace threw a mark of 18.46m/60' 6.75" surpassing his previous mark of 18.16m/59' 7" that was set a month ago at the Music City Invitational.
Immediate Impact: The Cardinal freshmen made an immediate impact in their first meets of the season with five freshman notching individual wins. Josh Hall paced the Cardinals in two events as he won both the 200m and 400m events. Javen Reeves notched his first collegiate victory in the high jump by clearing 2.04m/6' 8.25". Oliver Newport joined his counterparts with his first collegiate win in the long jump with a mark of 7.25m/23' 9.50". Devin Valentine took the triple jump with a mark of 14.87m/48' 9.50", registering his first victory of the season.
Hall Races to the Top: Making his collegiate debut, freshman Josh Hall won both the 200m and 400m track events to lead the Cardinals with two individual wins. Hall won the 200m by finishing with a time of 22.18. Later in the event, Hall took first place in the 400m with a time of 48.54.
Impressive Opening Weekend: Louisville opened their indoor track season by registering eight victories at the Music City Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. Along with the five freshman wins; the Cardinals saw victories from junior Brittany Owens and sophomore Kelsie Courtney. Owens won the triple jump with a mark of 12.22m/40' 1.25" while Courtney won the high jump with a mark of 1.66m/5' 5.25". The men's A team won the 4x400m relay by registering a time of 3:15.17.
Motill leads Cards at Golden Flash Gala: Junior Marcus Motill finished second in the men's heptathlon with a total of 5036 points. Motill won three events in the two-day event. A Stamford, Conn., native, Motill won both the 60m and the long jump on the first day of competition. His time of 7.07 in the 60m and mark of 6.82m/22' 4.5" in the long jump put Motill in a comfortable position heading to the final day of competition. He won the 1,000m in a time of 2:43.65.
Two Cardinals Shatter School Record: Motill and freshman Eric Fox both broke the school record in the men's heptathlon with their performances at the Golden Flash Gala. Motill finished second with 5036 points while Fox, competing in his first collegiate competition, amassed a total of 4758 points. Both totals broke the previous school record of 4731 points that was set by Motill last season at the AAC Championships.
