Track and Field Travels to UK Invite This Weekend

This Week: The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams kick off 2015 slate with a two-day indoor event this weekend in Lexington, Ky. for the UK Invite. Field events are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. with the weight throw and running events are slated to start at 7:00 p.m. with the distance medley relay inside Nutter Field House.
The meet continues on Saturday with field events beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the high jump and the running events slated to start at noon with the 60m hurdles.
Personal Bests Set: At the Hoosier Open, Edwin Kibichy and Dolly Nyemah both set new personal best records. Kibichy competed in the 5000m Invitational and finished third with a time of 13:53.18 in an extremely competitive field. His time was also less than a second off a school record set by Wesley Korir with a time of 13:52.63. Nyemah broke her previous personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 19.79m/64-11.25 to place fourth in competition. Her previous personal best was posted the week before at the Music City Invitational with a mark of 17.32m/56-10.0.
Immediate Impact: The Cardinal freshmen made an immediate impact in their first meets of the season with five freshman notching individual wins. Josh Hall paced the Cardinals in two events as he won both the 200m and 400m events. Javen Reeves notched his first collegiate victory in the high jump by clearing 2.04m/6' 8.25". Oliver Newport joined his counterparts with his first collegiate win in the long jump with a mark of 7.25m/23' 9.50". Devin Valentine took the triple jump with a mark of 14.87m/48' 9.50", registering his first victory of the season.
Hall Races to the Top: Making his collegiate debut, freshman Josh Hall won both the 200m and 400m track events to lead the Cardinals with two individual wins. Hall won the 200m by finishing with a time of 22.18. Later in the event, Hall took first place in the 400m with a time of 48.54.
Impressive Opening Weekend: Louisville opened their indoor track season by registering eight victories at the Music City Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. Along with the five freshman wins; the Cardinals saw victories from junior Brittany Owens and sophomore Kelsie Courtney. Owens won the triple jump with a mark of 12.22m/40' 1.25" while Courtney won the high jump with a mark of 1.66m/5' 5.25". The men's A team won the 4x400m relay by registering a time of 3:15.17.
Motill leads Cards at Golden Flash Gala: Junior Marcus Motill finished second in the men's heptathlon with a total of 5036 points. Motill won three events in the two-day event. A Stamford, Conn., native, Motill won both the 60m and the long jump on the first day of competition. His time of 7.07 in the 60m and mark of 6.82m/22' 4.5" in the long jump put Motill in a comfortable position heading to the final day of competition. He won the 1,000m in a time of 2:43.65.
Two Cardinals Shatter School Record: Motill and freshman Eric Fox both broke the school record in the men's heptathlon with their performances at the Golden Flash Gala. Motill finished second with 5036 points while Fox, competing in his first collegiate competition, amassed a total of 4758 points. Both totals broke the previous school record of 4731 points that was set by Motill last season at the AAC Championships.
