Field Hockey Travels to Iowa for Preseason Scrimmage

The University of Louisville field hockey team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa for a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. (ET).
About Louisville: The Cardinals are making their final preparations for the 2014 season, their first as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last year, Louisville finished the season at No. 15 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings, compiled a 15-5 overall record and went 6-1 in BIG EAST play en route to capturing a share of the regular season title. Returning from the 2013 team are eight starters and 18 letterwinners including: BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Shannon Sloss as well as NFHCA All-West Region and all-conference selections: Alyssa Voelmle, Sydney King and Elisa Garcia.
Scouting the Hawkeyes: Iowa is coming off of a 13-8 campaign and a Big Ten tournament runner-up finish in 2013. The Hawkeyes were ranked No. 19 in the final NFHCA coaches' poll. Three Iowa players: All-Americans Natalie Cafone and Dani Hemeon; and All-West Region selection Stephanie Norlander were named to the 2014 Big Ten Players to Watch List.
Up Next: Louisville will open the season on Aug. 29 when Saint Louis visits Trager Stadium for a 4 p.m. matchup. The Cardinals will play host to New Hampshire on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free for all UofL field hockey games.
