LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Several University of Louisville track and field student-athletes are taking part in the team's annual last-chance meet, the Cardinal Twilight, on Friday at the Cardinal Park Track Stadium.

The event is scheduled to provide student-athletes the opportunity to achieve preliminary round qualifying standards, earning a high enough ranking on the descending order list to reach the NCAA Division I Preliminary Rounds from May 29-31 and ultimately advance to the national championships.

Other schools competing at the event include DePaul, Cincinnati, Dayton, USF, and Eastern Kentucky.

Competition at the throws field begins at 10 a.m., while field events inside the stadium are scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Running events start at 4 p.m. and then switch to a rolling schedule at 6 p.m. Live results from the meet can be accessed through GoCards.com.

The Cardinals begin with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m., with the men's competition following, and the men's and women's shot put events also in the morning.

Louisville's men boast three in the top 30 in the region in the hammer throw in Sam Bombaugh, Brad Vivace, and Nils Westrich, while Patrice Gates ranks 25th in the region in the event. Caitlin Gilmore (No. 49), Hannah Baker (No. 50), and Rachel Serafin (No. 54), who also compete Friday, are just outside the top 48.

Brad Vivace has the 58th-best mark in the region in the shot put.

The jumps group is the next contingent in action, beginning with the men's and women's long jump. Brittany Owens already has secured a spot at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds on the women's side, while Bre'Yana Wash's season-best mark of 6.02m/19-9 ranks just outside the top 48 at 52nd.

Later in the day, both Chanel Krause and Chelsea Bingham will take part in the women's pole vault. Krause, a freshman, ranks 12th in the region with a school-record mark of 4.15m/13-7.25. Bingham cleared a personal-best 3.85m/12-7.50 just two weeks ago, moving her into 62nd on the descending order list.

Following the men's javelin competition, which begins at 2:30 p.m., Katie Wimpari and Jenna Wargo will take part in the women's section. Wargo's season-best 46.04m/151-0 is the 34th-best mark in the region. Also during that timeframe, the Cardinals will have four competing in the men's discus and three in the women's discus.

The Cardinals' sprinters begin action on the track, starting with the men's 110m and women's 100m hurdles, followed by the women's and men's 100m races. All four races are preliminaries, with the finals taking place later in the meet.

Calvin Arsenault, who is taking part in both hurdles competitions, ranks 20th in the region in both the short distance and 400m hurdles.

After the short sprints finals, Benadate Cheruiyot is slated to run in the 800m. The sophomore currently has the 18th-fastest time in the region in the 3,000m steeplechase.

The Cardinals wrap up the day with Rachel Pease in the 3,000m steeplechase, the only distance in event in which any Louisville runner is competing. The sophomore finished sixth at the AAC Championships in the event with a collegiate-best time.
