LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field's Benadate Cheruiyot is the American Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The sophomore set the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays. She raced to a time of 10:22.18, breaking the 2011 record that Monica Hernandez held by 10 seconds. Cheruiyot, whose school mark is 30 seconds faster than that of her season debut, ranks first in the conference, 20th in the region, and 36th nationally.
Louisville returns to action at the AAC Outdoor Championships in Tampa, Fla., from May 2-4. The three-day event will be held at the USF Track and Field Stadium.
Currently, the Cardinals boast 30 marks that rank in the AAC's top five.
