Louisville, which takes part in the AAC Outdoor Championships from May 2-4 in Tampa, Fla., has its distance group start the day with the women's and men's 5,000m.
After a slew of high school races, the Cardinals return to the track with their men's and women's 4x100m relay teams. The men's group of Jermaine Parrish, Michael Thompson, Antoine Keys, and Jeron Brown raced to the fifth-fastest time in the AAC in the event at Louisville's last home meet, the Border Battle.
During that time, Louisville's throwers will begin competition in their respective events. Liberty Slinden headlines a trio taking part in the women's shot put, an event in which she ranks 20th in the region. Also at 10:30 a.m., Sam Bombaugh and Brad Vivace make up two of the five taking part in the men's hammer throw. Both Bombaugh and Vivace rank in the top 35 in the region in the event.
The individual sprint competitions commence shortly after, with the women's 100m hurdles at 11:08 a.m. and the men's 110m hurdles at 11:25 a.m. Calvin Arsenault's time of 13.98 in the 110m hurdles is 13th in the region.
At 11:30 a.m., Chelsea Bingham and Chanel Krause take part in the pole vault. Krause set the school record in the pole vault at the Border Battle on April 12, clearing the bar at 3.92m/12-10.25. The freshman ranks fourth in the conference and 37th in the region.
Jeron Brown is scheduled to run on both men's relay teams on Saturday. |
The next part of the jumps group is scheduled to begin at noon, with the men's and women's long jump. Brittany Owens currently has the sixth-best jump in the region with a wind-aided mark of 6.29m/20-7.75.
At approximately 1 p.m., the women's javelin, women's hammer throw, and men's shot put events will be contested. Jenna Wargo is one of four taking part in the javelin, which she ranks 27th in the region. Patrice Gates headlines the hammer throw competition, holding the 17th-best mark in the region.
Parrish makes his second appearance on the track, with the men's 100m after 1 p.m. He has the eighth-fastest mark in the league at 10.63. He also is slated to run in the 200m and the 4x400m relay.
Shortly before 3 p.m., Gwen Shaw is one of two Cardinals lining up in the 400m hurdles. Her season-best time of 1:02.61 achieved earlier in the season is sixth in the conference.
Louisville's solid contingent in the men's discus is scheduled to compete indoors at 3 p.m. Steve Wade is one of four competing in the event, and all four rank in the top 10 in the AAC in the discus.
Toward the latter part of the meet, freshman Emmonnie Henderson will take part in her second event of the meet, the discus. She made her collegiate debut at the Border Battle, winning the discus title with a throw of 50.21m/164-9; it ranks 22nd in the region and third in the conference.
Louisville's men's and women's 4x400m relay teams wrap up the meet just before 5 p.m.
