Track and Field Plays Host to 2014 Border Battle

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams play host to the fifth annual Border Battle on Saturday, April 11, at Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium.
Events at the throws field are set to begin at 10 a.m. Field events inside the track are scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m., with running events commencing at noon. Live results from the meet can be accessed through www.GoCards.com.

The dual-scored meet showcases Louisville and Notre Dame against Indiana and Purdue. Admission is free.
Through the first three meets, the Cardinals have 12 marks that rank in the top-50 nationally. Regionally, Louisville has totaled 23 marks inside the top 50.
Louisville opens the meet with the men's and women's hammer throw competitions at the throws field. Nils Westrich, Sam Bombaugh, and Brad Vivace each have marks in the top 30 in the region, while holding Nos. 1-3 in the conference. On the women's side, Patrice Gates and Caitlin Gilmore rank second and fourth, respectively in the conference.

Following the women's and then the men's shot put events, Louisville begins competition on the track with the men's and women's short hurdles events. In the women's shot put, Liberty Slinden ranks third in the conference and standout Emmonnie Henderson is making her collegiate debut in the event and the discus. The freshman played on the Louisville women's basketball team, helping the Cardinals to the NCAA regional final.
The Cardinals' jumps contingent gets started at 12:30 p.m. with the men's and women's pole vault. In the women's long jump group, Bre'Yana Wash, Brittany Owens, Kim Cardeiro, and Hannah Cox - all competing on Saturday - rank inside the AAC's top 10.
During the jumping events, Tyler Byrne leads a trio of men in the 5,000m race at 1 p.m. Byrne, a cross country All-American, has the fastest time in the conference in the event and won the race at last year's meet.
Upon conclusion of the 4x100m relays, Louisville is scheduled to line up six in the men's 1,500m. Andrew Stewart, Thomas Cave, and Ryan Eaton, and Nick Reader also are slated to take part in the men's 800m at 3:10 p.m.
Louisville will participate in four-consecutive sprinting events later in the day, consisting of the men's and women's 400m hurdles and the men's and women's 200m. Calvin Arsenault, who took third in both hurdles competitions last year, has the second-fastest time in conference this season in the 400m hurdles.
In the 200m, Jermaine Parrish is one of two freshmen in the men's race. He has the seventh-fastest time this season in the event. Wash, Kayla Tyson, and Nitaya Walker will take part in the women's race prior to the men's competition.
The Cardinals conclude the meet with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
