LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field's Brittany Owens won the long jump title this past weekend and is the American Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Owens registered a career-best mark of 6.11m/20-0.50 in the long jump to win the event title at the Meyo Invitational on Friday. The leap helps the sophomore maintain her No. 1 ranking in the event in the conference, while holding the league's fourth-best mark in the triple jump. Nationally, Owens is tied for 26th in the long jump.
In addition to Owens, Louisville has five other student-athletes who rank in the top 48: Guillaume Victorin (No. 5, men's long jump), Ben Williams (No. 8, men's triple jump), Patrice Gates (No. 20, women's weight throw), and Brad Vivace (No. 44, men's shot put).
Louisville splits squads again this weekend. A group is slated to head to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., while a majority of the team returns to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Hills meet. Both competitions begin on Friday, Feb. 14.
