
Track and Field Releases 2014-15 Schedule

On Tuesday, head coach Dale Cowper announced the track and field team's 2014-15 indoor and outdoor schedules, highlighted by three home meets.
"We put a lot of thought into this year's schedule," said Cowper. "I believe it will meet the needs of every student in our program. As I look at our schedule as a whole and building of our championship season, we will compete against some quality competition and the fields will be strong, but it's an opportunity for our full team to compete."
Louisville begins the indoor portion of its schedule at the Music City Challenge on Dec. 4. Then they will compete in the Golden Flash Gala in Kent, Ohio on Dec. 5-6. Before the winter break, the Cards will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Open on Dec. 12. Last year in the meet, Ben Williams won the triple jump with a mark of 15.96m/52-4.50 and Brittany Owens won the triple jump registering a mark of 12.23m/40-1.50.
Louisville will return to action in the UK Invite on Jan. 16-17 in Lexington, Ky. They will then travel to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Black and Gold on Jan. 23-24. The Cardinals return to Bloomington for the Indiana Relays on January 30-31. Chanel Krause and Steve Wade highlighted last year's meet with Krause notching the victory in the pole vault while Wade took the win in the shot put. Krause registered a mark of 3.95/12-11.50 while Wade's throw landed at 17.46m/57-3.50 for the win.
Louisville is scheduled to split squads as a group will head to Blacksburg, Va. while another group returns to the Meyo Invitational in early February. Owens notched the victory in the long jump at 6.11m/20-0.50 while Williams took the triple jump with a mark of 16.00m/52-6. Benadate Cheruiyot won the 3,000m race in a time of 9:51.70.
The following weekend, the Cardinals will compete in their final indoor meet before the ACC Championships with the Hoosier Hills Invitational. Kelsie Cramsey took the win last year in the 600m with a time of 1:33.25 while Emily Bushey took the 800m in 2:11.94. Owens earned another indoor victory in the long jump with 5.99m/19-8. Louisville also took the win in the men's distance medley relay with the team of Kibet, Cave, Eaton, and Stewart taking the win in 10:10.53.
The Cardinals will then travel to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in its first ACC Indoor Championship on Feb. 26-28. Fayetteville, Ark. will host the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14.
Louisville kicks off their outdoor season with a return to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the Alabama Relays from March 19-21. Last year the Cardinals notched 23 top-10 finishes over the weekend.
The following weekend, the Cardinals will host their first outdoor meet of the season with the Lenny Lyes/Clark Wood Invitational in Cardinal Park on March 27-28. In last year's event, the Cardinals took six individual wins along with 29 top-five finishes. Hannah Cox took the long jump in 5.72m/18-9.25 while Owens took the triple jump in 11.49m/37-8.50 and Krause won the pole vault in 3.76m/12-4. Cheruiyot won the 3,000m steeple chase with a time of 10:51.56. Gwen Shaw won the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.71 and Cramsey won the 800m in 2:13.18.
On April 3-4 the squad will split again between the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Louisville will return home on April 11 to host the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Cardinal Park. The Cards will get to face some ACC competition on April 17-18 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Louisville will then travel to the UT Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn. on May 2.
The Cardinals end the regular outdoor season before the postseason with the Cardinal Twilight in early May. Owens and Shaw led the Cardinals to individual wins and Louisville notched 27 top-five finishes in last year's meet. Owens won the long jump with 6.05m/19-10.25 and Shaw was the first finisher in the 400m with a time of 1:01.74.
Louisville's student-athletes who qualify for postseason competition will participate in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Rounds in Jacksonville, Fla. The event runs from May 28-30 and will be held on the campus of the University of North Florida. The pinnacle of the outdoor season, the NCAA Division Outdoor Championships, will be held in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field from June 10-13. The four-day event will be hosted by the University of Oregon.
The Cardinals return three All-Americans to this year's squad - Edwin Kibichiy, Brittany Owens and Ben Williams, along with seven conference champions.
