Field Hockey Moves to No. 5 in NFHCA Poll
October 07, 2014 | Field Hockey

The University of Louisville field hockey team jumped seven spots to No. 5 in the 2014 Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association coaches' poll released on Oct. 7.
This marks the second top-five appearance in program history with Louisville achieving a program-best No. 4 ranking in the 2002 season. It is also the first time the Cardinals have been ranked in the top 10 since the 2010 season when the team reached as high as No. 8 and spent six weeks in the top 10.
The Cardinals (10-2, 3-1 ACC) are coming off of a pair of wins over ranked opponents last weekend. On Friday, then-12th ranked Louisville upset No. 4 Duke 2-1 and followed that with a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Michigan on Sunday.
Louisville is currently second in ACC standings and will go on the road to face No. 13 Syracuse (8-3, 0-3 ACC) on Oct. 11.
NOTES:
This season, Louisville is 5-1 against ranked opponents this season with wins over (then) No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 Duke, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 15 Michigan, No. 16 Wake Forest. Their only loss was against (then) No. 9 Virginia in double OT.
UofL debuted at No. 15 in the 2014 National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason poll and prior to the current poll, reached as high No. 11 in three ranking periods.
All seven ACC teams are ranked this week, including five squads in the top 10 led by North Carolina at No. 1. It marks the 18th straight poll that every active ACC team has been ranked, dating back to October of 2012. Over the last 12 years, the No. 1 team in the country has been an ACC squad 90% of the time.
