
Volleyball Beats Syracuse

Janelle Jenkins had 17 kills, hitting .389 with a match-high 15 digs and five blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Syracuse in ACC volleyball action Friday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
"Another great night for Janelle Jenkins, whose blocking and defense were awesome," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. "It is great to see her all-around game devel op like that. Tara Gowan was a great spark off the bench and that gives me added options for making adjustments. Setter Katie George did a phenomenal job of keeping us in system and distributing the ball."
The match was the first in the KFC Yum! Center for former UofL head coach Leonid Yelin,now at the helm at Syracuse. His Orange fell 25-12, 22-25, 25-16, 25-14. SU is now 8-14 overall and 1-9 in the league.
UofL hit .258 with 16 blocks, led by Tess Clark who had eight along with her nine kills. The Cards registered nine service aces led by Katie George's four.
The Cards roared out to a 19-5 lead in the first set, powered by a 7-0 service run by Lyndsay Palmer. The Orange hit -.022 which made it difficult to rally. In all, the Orange hat 10 hitting errors and were blocked five times. Maya McClendon led with four kills.
In the second set, SU got its block going and improved its hitting to .209 as Silvi Uatttara's offense helped the Orange go from being down 15-10 to tie at 19. The teams tied at 22 but Syracuse scored the final three points to even the set score at one apiece with the 25-22 win.
The Cards used a 9-1 run midway through the third set to take a 17-11 lead and then closed out the set with a 25-16 win using .229 hitting and six blocks. Jenkins had seven kills to pace UofL.
In the fourth set, Roxanne McVey's served five straight points to put the Cards up 15-5. The Orange answered with a 6-2 run to come within six at 17-9 but the Cards were hitting .357 in the set and cruised to a 25-14 win.
