
Cross Country Heads to the ACC Championship

THE FIELD The race will feature men's and women's squads from all 15 ACC member institutions. The men's field boasts four teams ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll, including ¬¬¬No. 3 Syracuse, No. 13 Virginia, No. 15 Florida State, and No. 28 North Carolina. The Women's field includes six ranked squads, including No. 12 Florida State, No. 13 Virginia, No. 15 North Carolina, No. 16 Syracuse, No. 18 NC State, and No. 30 Boston College.
THE WEATHER Conditions are expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 59 degrees on Friday in Earlysville, Va. The low is expected to be 39 degrees with winds at 5 mph.
The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams are set to travel to Earlysville, Va. to take on the most challenging fields they have faced this season at the 2014 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 31.
The ACC Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Virginia, will feature both men's and women's squads from all 15 ACC Member institutions. The women's race will begin at 10:00 a.m., while the men's race will immediately follow at 10:45 a.m. at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course.
The Louisville men have three top 10 finishes in their four races this season. The men are led by juniors Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet. Kibichiy won the Meijer Flyer 5K and finished second at the Commodore Classic while Kibet finished second in the Meijer Flyer 5K and third at the Commodore Classic. Kibet edged out Kibichiy by one second to finish third at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic while Kibichiy finished fourth, while in the Pre National Invitational, Kibichiy finished in 15th and Kibet finished in 24th.
Japhet Kipkoech has finished in the top 20 in three of the four races this season. He finished fourth in the Meijer Flyer 5K and seventh in the Commodore Classic before returning to Louisville and placing 18th in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. Jonathan Reynolds and freshmen Daniel Southard and Chris Striegel have also scored for the Cardinals this year. Kyle Covert returned to action in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic and ran a personal best in the 8K.
The women have finished in the top 15 of every race this season. They are led by sophomore Benadate Cheruiyot and freshman Kelsie Schwartz. Cheruiyot has two top 10 finishes in her three races this season. She finished second at the Meijer Flyer 5K and ninth at the Commodore Classic. Schwartz led the women with a 38th place finish in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. She also finished ninth at the Meijer Flyer 5K.
Senior Megan Klein had a strong showing in both the Commodore Classic and the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. She ran a personal best in the Commodore Classic to finish 34th. Emily Bushey ran a personal best in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic and led the Cardinals in the Pre National Invitational, finishing in 15th place. She has scored in the last three races for the Cardinals.
