
McClendon Named The American Freshman of the Week

The American Athletic Conference began league play this weekend with the first conference games in the inaugural season. With strong performances in the opening conference games, Louisville's Maya McClendon was awarded Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, became the first players in league history to win multiple weekly honors.
McClendon continued her strong freshman campaign by helping Louisville to a perfect 2-0 start in conference play. She led scoring in both matches, opening with 17 kills and 9 digs against Memphis, and recorded her third double-double of the year with 15 kills and 11 digs against Temple. Overall, McClendon averaged 4.0 kills and 2.5 digs per set to spur the Cardinals to become the only team in the American last week with two victories over teams with winning records. With the win against Memphis, Louisville has not lost a conference opener since 2000. McClendon guided the Cardinals to a 4-0 record over the two weeks, posting 53 kills, 38 digs, and six blocks.
Honor Roll
Brooke Mattingly, Louisville, Sr., MB Mattingly scored 25.5 points in two wins for the Cardinals, against Memphis and Temple. She hit .326 on the week, totaling 22 kills, seven digs, and seven total blocks.
