LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's golfer Gus Lundquist qualified for the 2013 U.S Amateur Open on Aug. 12-18 at the Country Club of Brookline in Brookline, Mass.
Lundquist becomes first Cardinals' player to qualify this season.
A product of Parker, Colo., Lundquist was a an All-BIG EAST performer last season after playing in eight events and posting a 74.8 stroke average.
On Monday at the qualifying event, Lundquist had plenty of birdies (10), but he also carded a double bogey and a half-dozen bogeys. That was good enough to earn him a berth in his first USGA championship.
According to www.Col.org, "This means a lot to me," Lundquist said, who is coached at Louisville by Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Mark Crabtree. "I was an alternate last year (in U.S. Amateur qualifying), and I feel like I've gotten a lot better since then. I feel like I'd be missing something if I wasn't playing in it. I really want to compete at that level."
