LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As seems to be the case with the rest of the University of Louisville's athletic program this year, the men's golf team also had its fair share of success this season.
The Cardinals' season was highlighted by a few young, talented golfers and with only two seniors on this year's roster, most of the team will return next year.
Freshmen Robin Sciot-Siegrist and Gus Lundquist, along with sophomore Max Walz, were the consistent headliners for the spring.
The Cardinals also received exceptional play by sophomores Henry Tomlinson and Antoine LeSaux, who shot a season-low 67 in the second round of the Turning Stone Tiger in route to a second-place finish (-5).
The team finished the season with two first-place finishes, one at its home course in the Cardinal Intercollegiate and another with a tie for first in the Boilermaker Invitational.
The group also appeared in the top five a number of times with three second-place finishes at the Turning Stone Tiger, The McLaughlin and the WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational.
The Cardinals finished out the spring with a fourth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships in Orlando, Fla.
Sciot-Siegrist, Lundquist and Walz each received All-BIG EAST postseason honors.
Sciot-Siegrist led the team with a 72.8 stroke average while appearing in all 11 tournaments. He recorded eight top-ten finishes, which is tied for third in the Cardinals' single-season history and is the most ever by a freshman.
The three-time BIG EAST Men's Golfer of the Week also turned in six rounds in the 60s and 10 rounds under par. He finished tied for first in the Boilermaker Invitational, tied for seventh at the BIG EAST Championships and was invited to the NCAA Regional, where he finished tied for 51st. He was one of 155 players across the country who earned all-region honors in being named to the 2013 All-East Region team.
Lundquist appeared in eight tournaments throughout the spring and recorded a 74.8 stroke average. He ended the season on a high note, finishing tied for seventh at the BIG EAST Championships.
Walz finished the season with a 74.0 stroke average while appearing in nine tournaments and recording three top-10 finishes. He finished in a tie for second in the Memphis Intercollegiate and shot a three-day, 2-under par 208 at The McLaughlin to finish third.
"I'm proud of all three players and their accomplishments throughout the year," head coach Mark Crabtree said. "With Robin and Gus being freshmen, and Max being a sophomore, we're excited for what they will bring in the coming years to the Cardinals."
