LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team completed a successful spring season with a 5-0-1 record in Spring League play.
"The coaching staff was very happy with how much we were able to accomplish throughout the spring season," said U of L head coach Justine Sowry. "Having a complete staff certainly assisted in getting the most out of every session but more importantly the commitment and enthusiasm of our players maximized the development both as individuals and as a team."
The Cardinals opened up the season on April 6 in Columbus, Ohio with a 3-1 win over Kent State and 1-1 tie with host Ohio State. The following day, they traveled to Bloomington, Ind. Where they picked up a 3-2 win over Miami (Ohio) and a 3-1 win over the host Hoosiers. They wrapped up Spring League play on April 13 with a pair of win, defeating Central Michigan 5-0 and Michigan State 2-1.
Louisville led the league with a +11 goal differential and was led by Victoria Stratton who had four goals. Becca Maddock, Erin Schneidtmiller, Elisa Garcia and Elizabeth Vance had two goals apiece.
"Heather Engel (Sports Performance) did an outstanding job from day one by pushing, motivating and inspiring them from the physical standpoint," said Sowry. "We were also able to accomplish many of our on-field goals which included winning the Spring League. Our team took it very seriously and were professional throughout. We have certainly set a strong tone and are very clear with what our mission will be in the 2013 fall season."
The Cardinals wrapped up spring play with the Alumnae Day on April 20. Louisville welcome 19 alums back to campus.
"The Alumnae Day was great finale to our spring success with a celebration of our past and present players," said Sowry,
