
Louisville Rowers Earn CRCA Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced its All-Region selections and Scholar Athlete award winners on Tuesday and the Louisville rowing team was well represented.
The Cardinals had four rowers earn All-Region honors as senior Erin Bennett and sophomore Darya Marchanka were named First Team All-South Region, while senior coxswain Ellen Fawcett, junior Morgan Dunham and junior Hannah Ritter were selected Second Team All-South Region. For Bennett, it marked the third time she has earned First Team All-Region honors in her career as a Cardinal.
Nominated student-athletes for the All-Region honors were evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees had to be eligible student-athletes who competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. The All-Region honorees will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Along with their work on the water, both Dunham and Ritter also earned recognition in the classroom leading a group of six Louisville rowers were named CRCA scholar athletes. Joining Dunham and Ritter was senior Katya Monchenko, sophomore Marissa Thalen, junior Amy Van Syoc and junior Andrea Zorn. Dunham, Monchenko, Ritter and Van Syoc were each named scholar athletes for the second time in their careers.
To be eligible for CRCA scholar athlete consideration, rowers had to be in at least their second year of eligibility, had to row in an NCAA eligible boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the spring races and had to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career.
