Check GoCards.com each week for the latest installment of Checkin' It with Monica, a weekly blog by two-time all-region honoree Monica Negron and her insight into the women's lacrosse program.
Coming off another win, the laxers are now 4-1 and are preparing for our next match against Presbyterian, which we play this coming Saturday.
Leaving right where I had previously left off. Time to give a behind the scenes view of our post home game rituals. Right after the clock strikes zero and our post game stretch and talk with coaches has finished, the mad dash to the cell phones begins. The bag of 25 iPhones, one Android and one BlackBerry is always meticulously placed on the couch in the locker room as each individual goes to pick up their respective phones and immediately check all social media. The on-going tweets about the game that just occurred begin.
Our best post game activity to date was our impromptu Harlem Shake done after our Ohio State win. We assembled into the locker room and called coach in to give her a ball we had recently signed in honor of her 100th win against Canisius. Again, reminder that everyone knew besides her what we were about to do. Right as she began the speech, first year midfielder, Kayla Sleece, pressed play to the song and we sat and watched as captain Janaye Dzikewich started to bust a move. Once the chorus came on, the locker room was insane with 27 girls dancing all around. Needless to say coach loved our performance and it can be seen on YouTube by typing in Louisville Lacrosse Harlem Shake for the visual.
The Cards ship out to Georgia on Friday for our second away game of the season. Stay tuned for next week's entry.
