Throughout the upcoming weeks, GoCards.com will unveil one member from the University of Louisville women's lacrosse's 2014 recruiting class. Today, Oregon resident native Lexi Cheetham is in the spotlight.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Traveling 2,300 miles wasn't going to deter Lexi Cheetham from continuing her already successful lacrosse career at the prep level to the collegiate ranks.
Cheetham, who will be making the move from Lake Oswego, Ore., to Louisville, is one of the most highly decorated athletes at Lake Oswego High after just three years.
Earlier this year, the Oregon native earned U.S. Lacrosse High School All-America honorable mention accolades. Cheetham, a three year all-league first-team selection attacker, has earned all-state status twice and participated in the prestigious 2013 U.S. Lacrosse/ESPN Girls All-American National Showcase.
"Lexi is smart and disciplined," head coach Kellie Young said. "She works hard with and without the ball, creating opportunities for both herself and her teammates. A midfielder, she impacts all aspects of the game, but excels in transition and starting an offensive threat."
Cheetham, who guided her school to consecutive state lacrosse titles in 2011 and 2012, was selected to the 2012 North Star Invitational nation's top 150 and earned a spot in the 2011 Adrenaline Top 150, which features only the top 150 players from the entire western United States.
"I love the University of Louisville's campus, the women's lacrosse facilities, and the overall support for the student athletes to be successful," Cheetham, a three-year member of the West Coast Starz Club lacrosse team, said on why she chose Louisville. "All the coaches are honest, organized, disciplined, and committed to winning. I'm proud to be a Cardinal."
The versatile athlete hasn't been limited to excelling in just lacrosse, though. Cheetham, who has earned nine varsity letters (cross country, downhill ski racing, and lacrosse), is a three-time selection to the Oregon state Ski Race Championship.
One of three children and daughter of Greg and Jennifer Cheetham, Lexi's father played collegiate ice hockey at New Hampshire.
