LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing program will host its only home event of the season on Saturday with the seventh annual Red & Black Regatta at 10:30 a.m., ET at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park on River Road.
The event is scheduled to include six intra-squad scrimmage races followed by a cookout with the rowers and coaches. The annual Red & Black Regatta is the only chance for fans and supporters to see the Cardinals compete at home during the 2013-14 season.
"This is a fun event where the UofL fans and supporters as well as the parents and families of the rowers can watch the team compete in the city of Louisville," said event organizer and graduate assistant coach Lina Azarova. "We will also have boats and ergs on display along the river and it will be a great way for people to learn more about the sport of rowing."
The Red & Black Regatta will begin with a welcome from second year head coach Derek Copeland at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by introductions of the Cardinal rowers and coaching staff and recognition of Louisville's award winners from the previous season. The boats are scheduled to launch at 11 a.m., and will be followed by the racing, which should be completed by approximately 12:15 p.m. The cookout, which is sponsored by Fischer's, is set to follow the racing.
"The sport of rowing is a unique and exciting sport and because it's not in the spotlight, this event is the perfect way for our great fans to see it in person," said Azarova. "It's also a wonderful way for our fans to meet our student-athletes and get to know some of the great ladies we have on this team."
The Cardinal Pride Pep Band and Cardinal Bird mascot will also be in attendance, while raffle drawings will be held throughout the day. Louisville rowing gear will also be on sale throughout the day. Directions to the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center can be found online here.
