LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team opened the year with a 32-14 win over Kentucky at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in the Governor's Cup on Sept. 2.

- Louisville ran its record to 1-0 with an impressive 32-14 win over Kentucky on Sept. 2 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. It was the second straight season-opening win for the Cardinals under head coach Charlie Strong. The Cardinals recorded 466 yards of total offense and had two running back rush for over 100 yards for the first time since the 2010 season in the win over the Wildcats. The 466 yards of total offense was the most for the Cardinals since racking 446 yards of offense in a loss at home to FIU last season.
- Sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater set a school record for completion percentage in a game at 90.5, going 19-for-21 for 232 yards in just over two quarters of play. One of his two incompletions came when he scrambled out of trouble and had to throw the ball out-of-bounds. He completed passes to nine different receivers and was 4-for-4 for 77 yards on third down.
- The junior tandem of Jeremy Wright and Senorise Perry each recorded over 100 yards on the ground. Wright rushed a career-high 22 times for 105 yards and three scores, while Perry tallied career bests with 16 carries for 108 yards and one score. All told, the Cardinals rushed for 219 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per carry. Louisville tallied four rushing touchdowns against UK, a feat that took eight games to reach last season. It was Wright's second career 100-yard game and his first since tallying a career-best 108 yards in a win over Rutgers last season.
- The Cardinals opened the game by scoring on their first three possessions of the game -- all of which were over 85 yards. Louisville took its first drive of the season 99 yards on 15 plays to take an 8-0 lead. The next drive was a six-play, 85-yard drive and the third was a 10-play, 93-yard scoring jaunt to take a 22-7 lead at the break.
- The Cardinals' season-opening drive went 99 yards and resulted in a touchdown. Following the first scoring play of the year, quarterback Will Stein connected with defensive end Marcus Smith for a successful two-point conversion. The last time the Cardinals scored on a two-point conversion was against Southern Miss on Oct. 10, 2009, when Adam Froman found Scott Radcliff in the end zone. Louisville won the game, 25-23. The last time Louisville converted a two-point attempt in a season-opening contest was against Tulane on Sept. 5, 1987. In the third quarter, after a Deon Booker six-yard touchdown run, Rodney Knighton ran into the end zone for the two-point conversion.
- If the Cardinals are going to have a successful offense and season in 2012, they have to stay away from the turnover bug. In Louisville's six losses last season, the Cardinals turned the football over a combined times, including three in the 31-24 loss to NC State in the Belk Bowl, which resulted in 14 points for the opposition. The Cardinals started off the 2012 season on the right foot, playing turnover-free football in the win over Kentucky, marking the second time over the last 14 games that Louisville didn't lose possession of the football.
