LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Each week, UofLsports.com will unveil one member from the University of Louisville women's lacrosse's 2012-13 recruiting class. This week, Ontario native Kaylin Morissette is in the spotlight.
"Kaylin will undoubtedly have an immediate impact on our success this upcoming season," head coach Kellie Young says. "She is methodical about how she plays, bullying her way through the midfield while finding and creating lanes to score on the attack. An immensely positive presence while playing with an equally competitive spirit, she will fit right in with our Cardinal family."
Hailing from Bowmanville, Ontario, Morissette brings a wealth of experience and leadership. At Bowmanville High, she helped start the lacrosse program and spent her first year in a dual player-coach role. In her prep career, she was tabbed team captain and guided the squad to consecutive Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletics titles in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, her 2010 hockey team was crowned LOSSA champions, and Morissette was tabbed the school's athlete of the year twice.
Outside of her high school, Morissette remained active. At the national level, she was a member of the U-19 Canadian National Lacrosse Team, earning the title of co-captain. In addition to helping the team win the bronze medal at the U-19 World Cup in Hannover, Germany, she was selected to the All-World Team and named MVP of the bronze medal game.
Locally, she played hockey for the Whitby Wolves Bantam 'AA' squad, where she was an assistant captain and helped the team capture the provincial championship. Also, the 5-foot-8 incoming freshman played with two separate lacrosse teams. With the Lady Blue Knights Lacrosse club team, she played a pivotal role in the team's five provincial titles, and with the Whitby Warrior Bantam Box squad, she was tabbed captain and led them to a provincial title.
The daughter of Mark and Stephanie Morissette, her grandfather, Ken Desjardine, competed at the collegiate level in hockey and played 154 games in the World Hockey Association for the Indianapolis Racers, Calgary Cowboys and Quebec Nordiques.
