LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville rowing program will host an informational meeting for its novice (walk-on) squad on Monday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m., ET in the Red Barn on the U of L campus. Interested students will not need prior rowing experience to be a part of the novice squad.
This is an opportunity to make lots of new friends, get into the best shape of your life, travel all over the U.S. representing your university and experience NCAA Division I athletics with one of the top athletic departments in the country.
Successful candidates should posses a high moral character that will make them a great teammate, have the desire to learn something new at a high level and like to be physically fit. You do not need to know what rowing is to start on the novice, walk-on squad. If you have class on Monday evenings and can not make the meeting, there are two alternative times on Friday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m., ET in the Floyd Theater and Monday, Aug. 27 at noon in the Floyd Theater (2nd floor of the SAC).
If you are interested in learning more about the team and the sport of rowing before the info meeting, there will be an open house at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center on Thursday, Aug. 23 and Friday, Aug. 24 from 3-5 p.m. The boathouse is just 4.5 miles from campus. Here is the physical address:
G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center 1321 River Road Louisville, KY 40206
A coach or current rower will be at the Open House to greet you and show you around. For more detailed directions you can contact novice coach Becky Smith at 502-264-1024 or becky.smith@louisville.edu
