University of Louisville field hockey coach Justine Sowry has announced that Kirstin Gebhart has joined her staff as an assistant coach.
"It's an exciting time for the Louisville Field Hockey program as our coaching staff is finally complete one month before the start of preseason," said Sowry. "It was clear upon first meeting Kirstin that she has a passion and zest for life and specifically toward field hockey. She brings enthusiasm for the coaching profession and values the overall experience that our student-athletes can have here at the University of Louisville. Kirstin comes from a strong hockey background and this coupled with her intelligence and the ability to learn quickly, she will provide an immediate impact to the program."
Gebhart's duties will include assisting with practice and game day preparation and assisting in the development of youth field hockey within the community. She served as a coach in the United States Field Hockey Association's Futures system from 2008-10 and is certified as a USFHA Level I Coach.
Gebhart was a four-year starter for American University (2007-10) and helped the Eagles to top 10 rankings in each of her seasons. As a midfielder, she earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in 2010 and was a three-time All-Patriot League selection. She was also successful in the classroom as a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic Squad and Academic All-Patriot League selection. The Mount Joy, Pa. native graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Art History in 2011.
