Two Golfers Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville Justin Dorward and Chris Malecwere among the 146 NCAA Division I male golfers named as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Friday.
"It's an outstanding accomplishment for Justin and Chris," said head coach Mark Crabtree. "I'm very proud of them. They both made strong commitments to their classroom work and were rewarded for their efforts. Having two Cardinals earn this prestigious award in the same season, is great for the program, but all the credit goes to Caitlin dance and our academic support staff team who work so hard with our athletes."
Dorward becomes the second player to be named in consecutive years. He follows Adam Hadwin, who was a two time Academic All-American in 2008 and 2009.
Dorward ended his career at the NCAA Regional in Bowling Green, Ky., after qualifying as an individual. He ended his outstanding career in 52nd place overall after shooting 12-over par. Dorward was one of three unanimous All-BIG EAST selections from the head coaches.
The product of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Dorward had an impressive finish at the BIG EAST Championships, ending the tournament in second place after shooting 5-under par. He has posted five top-five finishes this season, including win at the USF Invitational.
Dorward led the Cardinals with a solid 72.3 stroke average this season, appearing in a team-high 10 tournaments. The product of Port St. Lucie, Fla., has played six rounds in the 60s and 10 rounds under par.
Malec played in 10 events last season and posted a 74.3 stroke average, including three top 10 finishes a year ago.
To be eligible for Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, hold a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 grade-point average. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
