Rowing Opens Busy Weekend with Day of Racing in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Louisville rowing team opened a busy weekend with morning and afternoon racing at Eagle Lake Reservoir.
The Cardinals had four crews competing at the event - varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four. Louisville's varsity eight boat earned a fourth-place finish in the grand final, while the second varsity eight was also fourth in its grand final. Louisville's varsity four crew took a home third-place finish, while the second varsity four crew was third.
Following the completion of Saturday's events in Indianapolis, the Cardinals traveled to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for a set of races on Sunday morning against Georgetown.
Louisville head coach Laura Aubrey on Saturday's racing:
"This was a disappointing race day for us in many aspects. I think a few boats simply underperformed and did not show up ready to race at their best. Hats off to Syracuse, Notre Dame and Iowa who executed some great races and showed solid speed out on the course."
"The speed that we have seen in our previous races and in practice was not seen in today's races, which is a hard pill to swallow. This is uncharacteristic of this group and I will look for them to respond maturely over the next two weeks as we make final preparations for the BIG EAST Championship."
"As tough as a day as it was, it was good to have our eyes opened. This forces us to reflect and serves to keep us on our toes during the next two weeks. I know the speed I've seen from this team is still in there, so we'll be working very hard to make sure it's ready on championship day."
