LOUISVILLE, Ky. - UofLsports.com unveils the final member from the University of Louisville women's lacrosse's 2012-13 recruiting class, and this week, Maryland native Laura Patterson is in the spotlight.
"An impressive midfielder out of high school, Laura's path to Louisville has been dramatic for all the right reasons," head coach Kellie Young said. "Her passion for giving back led her to take a year of service in both the U.S. and Guatemala, giving back to communities at home and abroad. We can't wait to hear her stories, learn from her experiences and develop into the player we know she can become."
A native of Severna Park, Md., Patterson gained valuable experience and had successful prep careers in three different sports at Severna Park High.
In lacrosse, under the direction of coach Carin Peterson, Patterson helped guide her squad to county, region and state titles in her freshman, sophomore and senior seasons. A two-time all-county selection, including a first-team pick as a senior, Patterson was captain of her junior varsity lacrosse squad and was promoted to the varsity squad during her freshman and sophomore campaigns. Recognized for her talents, she was selected from student-athletes at the National School Girls Tournament to compete for a spot on the U.S. national team in 2010.
Patterson also lettered in cross country and basketball. She ran varsity cross country her junior and senior seasons, directing the team to county and regional titles two times each. More importantly, the two-time all-county honoree helped the squad capture the 2009 state title. In basketball, she was tabbed captain of the junior varsity team, while being awarded most valuable player honors as a sophomore. Patterson continued her success on to the varsity team, being named captain of the squad as a senior and earning the Falcon Award, bestowed to the player with the most dedication, heart and leadership.
Away from the field, she excelled academically. Patterson was a top scholar-athlete all four years of high school, accumulating a grade-point average of 4.25 or higher while in season.
One of two children, her sister, Anna, will be a senior on the Lehigh women's lacrosse team beginning this year.
