LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jake Smith was named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) freshman All-America Team on Monday.
Smith became the first player in school history to be named to the FWAA All-America team.
The Jacksonville, Ala., native started 13 games for Louisville at guard in 2011, as the Cardinals finished the season 7-6 and won a share of the BIG EAST title. Louisville closed out the year with a 31-24 loss to NC State in the Belk Bowl for the Cardinals' second straight post-season appearance.
Smith was one of only three Cardinals to start every game on the offensive line this season, joining Ryan Kessling and Alex Kupper.
