LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team officially broke camp on Friday with the final day of two-a-day practices. Louisville practiced for over two hours in over 90-degree temperatures.
Louisville, which had two practices scheduled, only went in the morning. Head coach Charlie Strong eliminated the second practice to get the team ready for Saturday's scrimmage at 10 a.m.
The Cardinals practiced in full pads and went through a typical practice, which included the final four periods of the squad going through team drills.
The emergence of sophomore wide receiver Jarrett Davis is becoming extremely evident. He made a number of catches over the middle during the team portion of practice. He has run good routes and isn't afraid to go over the middle.
At one point during the team drills, the Cardinals had five true freshmen playing in the secondary (including the nickel back). It appears Charles Gaines, Andrew Johnson, Calvin Pryor, Terell Floyd and Jermaine Reve will receive significant playing time.
True freshman John Miller worked with the first team at offensive guard.
Daniel Brown, Dexter Heyman and Preston Brown appear to have settled in at the linebacker positions.
The Cardinals will conduct a scrimmage on Saturday before the team prepares for the start of classes on Monday morning.
