Men's Golf Places Third at Irish Creek Collegiate

Kannapolis, N.C. - The University of Louisville men's golf team captured third place at the 13 team Irish Creek Collegiate held at the 7,099-yd par-71 The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C. The Cardinals concluded the second round with a team score of 285 and shot 287 in the final round to finish at 284-285-287=856, 4-over par.
Duke captured the team title with a two day total of 844 while Wake Forest's Lee Bedford fired a 7-under par 206 to take medalist honors.
Sebastian Szirmak secured his third top 10 finish of the year and his first since the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate during the fall season with a 2-under 69 in the final round. Szirmak finished tied for seventh after carding 70-72-69=211 (-2). Chris Malec was the Cardinals' second highest finisher for the second straight tournament. The sophomore carded a 3-under 68 in the second round which was completed on Sunday morning due to thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon. Malec placed in a tie for 15th at 74-68-73=215 (+2).
Junior Justin Dorward fired a 1-under 70 in the final round to finish tied for 20th. Dorward shot 68-79-70=217 (+4). Karsten Clements and Chris Biuso both tied for 36th after shooting 72-75-75=222 (+9) and 76-70-76=222 (+9) respectively.
Freshman Charlie Macneal tied for 52nd while competing as an individual with scores of 76-76-73=225 (+12).
Louisville is back in action on April 17 for the three-day BIG EAST Championship in Tampa, Fla.
