Charlie Strong Discusses Second Practice
Louisville, Ky. - - With two spring practices in the books, the University of Louisville football team will trade in the shorts for full pads when the Cardinals hit to the practice fields Saturday for its first full-pad practice of the spring season at 10:30 a.m.
Louisville finished its second of three scheduled practices in shorts Friday, going through a number of individual periods and doing a lot of 7-on-7 work and ended the practice with full-team work.
Head coach Charlie Strong likes the effort of his team, but know that the spring is all about teaching.
"It's all about fundamentals and teaching," said Strong. "We are doing a lot more instruction and teaching out on the field because we have a lot of young players who need to get snaps."
One note of interest was the Zed Evans, who moved to running back last season, was flipped to the defensive side of the football and was playing cornerback Friday.
The Cardinals are fortunate to have four early enrollees this spring, and one that has emerged is wide receiver Charles Gaines. The speedster has shown a good burst and an ability to stretch the field so far in the first two days of proactice.
The defense had its way with the offense on Friday and Strong expects that to continue on Saturday.
"The defense is has a number of players who played a lot of football last year, and the offense is young," said Strong. "We have a lot of work to do, but we will get a good look Saturday when the pads come on."
Spring practice continues Saturday morning when the Cardinals host the third and final open practice this spring. Louisville closes its doors until the Spring Game on April 15 at 7:00 p.m.
