LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After helping guide the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team to a pair of victories last week, Emily Dashiell was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
A senior, Dashiell started both games that saw the Cardinals (6-0) post a 19-8 victory at Sacred Heart and then a 20-2 rout at Manhattan. Dashiell had totals of 10 ground balls, 12 draw controls and three caused turnovers. She also had a strong week offensively, registering six goals and an assist.
In the win at Sacred Heart, she had four ground balls, seven draw controls and a caused turnover. In the team's next win at Manhattan, she had six ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Dashiell was a major factor in holding the Jaspers to just two goals, notably zero in the second half, and a lowly 14 shots for the game.
In the BIG EAST, Dashiell ranks first in ground balls (four per contest) and draw controls (6.83 per game).
Katie Oliverio earned a spot on the weekly honor roll after breaking the school record in assists against Sacred Heart, with six, and then re-breaking the record against Manhattan, with eight. She finished the week with 14 assists, two ground balls and a draw control.
Louisville returns to action on Thursday, March 24, against Stanford, which ranked No. 7 nationally last week. First draw at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
