BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Playing against some of the top teams in the country, including seven nationally ranked teams and 11 nationally ranked individuals, the University of Louisville men's golf team placed 12th at the Jerry Pate Invitational held at the par-70, 7,204-yd Old Overton Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
Louisville struggled on Tuesday shooting 33-over par in the final round. The Cardinals finished at 307-297-313=914. Texas dominated the field from the start and took home team medalist honors after finishing at 4-under 836, 20 strokes better than runner-ups Alabama and Clemson.
Individually, Clemson's Corbin Mills took home medalist honors after firing 65-69-67=201 (-9).
Henry Tomlinson led Louisville and tied for 29th overall. Tomlinson shot 74-70-77=221. Senior Justin Dorward finished tied for 42nd after rounds of 74-76-76=226. Charlie Macneal carded 79-75-79=233 to finish tied for 52nd while Chris Malec tied for 56th with rounds of 80-73-81=234. Nick Umholtz placed 60th after shooting 80-77-83=240.
Louisville continues their fall season at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges held in Jonesborough, Tenn. from Oct. 14-16.
