Preseason has officially begun!
The first two weeks of classes has started, and we hit training hard with our fitness testing immediately after our first team meeting. During this meeting, we finished writing our Mission Statement for Louisville Lacrosse, and our final copy is as follows:
"We the women of Louisville Lacrosse, will bring out individual and team best every day, attack every challenge, and fight to the end knowing in our hearts we have nothing left to give."
This was something that every girl on the team had their input, compiled all of our ideas and wrote our mission statement together, as a team.
The next two weeks, the team focused in on our conditioning, prehab and limited time we had with our sticks. Friday, we had our first captain's practice of the season, and it was a great success! We were all very anxious to get out there with our sticks again and play with one another. It has been awhile, but you would never have thought we were apart for a day!
This week, we begin to dive into our normal days, with one goal in mind and that is preparing ourselves for Feb. 20, our home opener against Binghamton.
Since the start of school, not only has the team been putting their time in on the field but we also have been doing our work off the field for the community. Katie Oliverio helped organize a group of girls to volunteer their services with the dogs and cats at the Humane Society.
Also, this past weekend, the team helped celebrate National Collegiate Women's Sports day with the rest of the women's teams in the athletic department. New and old female alumni from all different sports teams graced us with their presence and wisdom while enjoying our brunch. Following the brunch, all of the current student-athletes greeted over 900 girl scouts by making them posters, playing games and taking pictures with all of the girls before heading to the women's basketball game to help cheer them on against Cincinnati. It was a great experience at halftime, when all the captains from each women's team greeted Owsley B. Frazier at half court with our deepest thanks and gratitude for all of the support he has contributed to the university and growth in women's sports throughout the year. We can't thank him enough.
This week we begin going full throttle and are excited to have more time with our sticks and working on preparing ourselves for the long road we have ahead of us to the Big East Championship!
