
Volleyball Sweeps Scarlet Knights 3-0

Emily Juhl had 13 kills and an ace to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of visiting Rutgers as BIG EAST action began Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.
U of L (6-4, 1-0) hit a season high .385 and outblocked the Scarlet Knights 10-2. Lola Arslanbekova added 12 kills and two blocks in the effort with Amanda Simmons chipping in six blocks. Rutgers (7-7, 0-1) hit .129 and committed 10 service errors.
The Cardinals won the first set powered by .409 hitting and strong blocking. Emily Juhl led U of L with four kills and Amanda Simmons added three roofs enroute to the victory.
After never trailing in the first set, the Cards fell behind 6-3, early in the second set. The Cardinals took their first lead at 12-11 on a kill by Juhl. U of L put down the Scarlet Knight uprising with a 9-2 run to go up 19-13 and then rolled to the 25-16 win. Brooke Mattingly had two straight aces to get the final two points of the set. Emily Juhl had six kills and was hitting .692 after two sets.
In the final set, Louisville fell behind 10-6 before coming back to tie at 12. The teams traded points but after tying at 17, U of L pulled away for the 25- 23 win. Lola Arslanbekova scored four of the last five points for the win.
The Cardinals played two setters with Gosia Lech had 15 assists and Taylor Brauneis had 16. Libero Lindsey Mango had seven digs.
