Hello Cardinal fans!
This week went by quickly, but the Louisville lacrosse team really accomplished a great amount of work.
Monday was our first official `Fall Ball' practice, and the coaching staff picked up right where we left off last year. We worked on our dodging and grid work and slowly getting our arms back into lacrosse form. Coach reminded us that the bruises do not hurt and are a sign of hard work. We applied these skills into some 5v5 and our favorite 7v7.
It was great to start playing with all the returnees again and welcome the freshmen into our style of play. The intensity in practice is getting higher every day, and we're excited to see how we all come together for the first `Fall Ball' game!
This week, the senior class met to discuss how we want our last year at Louisville to be and what goals we want to achieve. In this meeting, we were able to decide what our goals were and a step-by-step plan on how we are going to get there starting this fall. This year is one of the most important years in the program, and the senior class serves as the foundation. We are fully aware that we need everyone to be on board in order to achieve greatness. We discussed our leadership roles on the team as well, making note of the importance of body language, tone and support that we need from one another.
Once a week the `Academy Award winning' coaches put on a skit for the seniors on how to act as a leader in pressured situations on and off the field. Even though we are able to get a good laugh off at there unique acting abilities, there are many important points are conveyed and we are able to apply in on the field.
In order for us to reach our goals this spring, a lot of hard work needs to be done this fall, and if there is one team we can learn that lesson from, it is women's soccer. The lacrosse team proudly supported the team as they beat Kentucky Thursday night in Cardinal Park.
With all the fall sports doing really well, I know we can't wait to continue that success starting with our first game.
