LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse standout Bergan Foley is entering her final season with the Cardinals. With high hopes and ambitions for this year, Foley is preparing mentally and physically for the challenges that lie ahead, on the field as well as in the classroom. To give fans an idea of her grind, Foley has taken time out of her busy schedule to recount on a weekly basis what goes on in a student-athlete's life. Each Friday, Foley will have a new entry in the `Shootin' it with Bergan' blog, so stay tuned. Check out the first edition below.
With this past summer being my last in Louisville, I wanted to make sure I truly took advantage of it. It was extremely productive, as I took two accounting classes and worked an internship downtown with Creative Alliance Marketing firm. I helped work on different marketing projects that reached throughout the region. It was a great opportunity and an experience that will be of value to me in the future.
However, I'm excited for the beginning of the school year and another start to the lacrosse season! Everyone arrived back into town a few days before our first meeting, and the veterans stopped by Bettie Johnson to check out our freshmen's dorm rooms. This summer, there was a good amount of us who stayed in the 'Ville to take classes and workout, so getting back into the swing of things shouldn't be a hard transition.
The first team meeting was held on Saturday, and it was great seeing everyone there dressed up in their business casual and informing the freshmen on the ways and traditions of Louisville lacrosse. The majority of our team consists of seniors, and we believe it's going be our best year yet. High expectations are set for the team in our 2010-11 season, with many triumphs to come in the future!
This year, we welcomed new Assistant Coach Anne Sheridan from Boston University. Along with her energetic coaching style, she also brings new traditions to our lacrosse team. Each player was assigned wingmates that they keep track of the whole season and help get each other through the week. Also, every player was assigned to a member of the coaching staff to report weekly goals to so we can continually improve upon our game. Lastly, the lacrosse team will be doing a night called "Cards Dine Out" each month, where two classes will catch up over dinner together.
Next week, we will be starting fitness and lift testing and begin training with some team footwork and agilities!
Well, that's it for today, but check back next Friday!
Go Cards!
