University of Louisville sophomore goalkeeper Erin Conrad has been selected to the USA Field Hockey Under 21 squad.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," said Conrad. "I've worked really hard and it is an honor to be selected. I look forward to gaining international hockey experience." In 2011, the U21 team is slated to compete in Asia.
Last season as a redshirt freshman, the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native did not allow a goal and combined for 1.5 shutouts while gaining valuable experience alongside U of L teammate All-American Heather Bustanoby. Over the summer, she was selected to the USA Field Hockey High Performance Midwest team and gained a U21 team tryout through her performance at the national championship in June. With her selection, Conrad becomes the third player in program history to play for the national under 21 squad, joining former Cardinals Janelle Avila (2006-07) and Jessica Javelet (2004-05).
"I am so proud of Erin," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "She was persistent and diligent throughout the journey - which is not an easy one. She never gave up and achieved this great opportunity to train within our national program."
