
Engelkes Joins Field Hockey Team

University of Louisville field hockey coach Pam Bustin has announced that Sophie Engelkes has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Cardinals in 2010. Engelkes rounds out a class of nine freshmen including: Dominique Pesqualichio, Nikki Barry, Katie Flannery, Kelsey Rosenmeier, Elizabeth Vance, Michelle Amon, Jacque Gerrick and Erin Schneidtmiller.

Rotterdam, The Netherlands (Montessori Lyceum Rotterdam)
Sophie Engelkes, a midfielder/back from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, played for Montessori Lyceum Rotterdam which won the district and finished second in her district three times during her career. After winning their district, they also finished fifth at the national championships for high schools. She plays on the first club team for H.V. Victoria in Rotterdam. At age 15 years she made her début in MA1 and played in one of the toughest leagues in The Netherlands and designed for 16-18 year olds.
Sophie on choosing Team Cardinal: I choose to become a part of Team Cardinal because everything is just great: the coaches, the team, the program, the facilities. It also felt like home when I visited the university and it's the perfect place for me to combine my studies with field hockey.
The Cardinals finished the 2009 season with a 12-8 overall record, ranking No. 16 in the final NFHCA coach's poll.
