
Swimming and Diving Head to Purdue Invitational

The University of Louisville Swimming and Diving teams will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the Purdue Invitational Swimming and Diving Meet at Boilermaker Aquatic Center's Doris Z. Holloway Pool this weekend, November 19-20-21, 2010.
The Cards men's swimming and diving team try to defend their title after winning the Purdue Invitational last year. The U of L women took second last year and hope to earn the top spot this time around. Both the Louisville's men's and women's teams are ranked in the top 20 in the CSCAA National Swimming and Diving Poll. The men's team is ranked at No. 19 with the women entering at No. 20.
The Cards will compete against the University of Arkansas (women), University of Cincinnati (men and women), University of Michigan (women), Missouri State University (men and women), Southern Illinois University (men and women), Ohio State University (men and women), and Purdue University (men and women).
The Cards are led by sophomores Aileen Cole and Pedro Oliveira, whom were named the BIG EAST Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week and the BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, respectively. Cole posted four individual wins to go along with a pair of relay victories last week. In Louisville's 186-105 win over West Virginia Nov. 5, she took first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles with times of 50.58 seconds and 3:52.49, respectively. Both of her freestyles rank as the top times in the BIG EAST. Oliveira recorded four individual first-place finishes, two individual second-place finishes and assisted in one winning relay last week. In U of L's 183-112 win against West Virginia Nov. 5, he won the 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly in 1:48.94 and 50.43, respectively. Oliveira won the 200 fly with 1:48.39 and the 200 back with 1:47.39 as the Cards downed Pitt 177-123 Nov. 6.
