The eight-hour bus ride back to Louisville didn't seem as bad after coming out of the weekend 2-0!
The first game, which was the first time our team played a game besides intrasquad, was against James Madison. We came out strong, but a little bit nervous. Nevertheless, we were able to play our game and put the ball in the back of the net. The defense had an outstanding performance, with great communication and application from everything we worked on this fall. Katie Zoeller stepped up to the plate in her first fall ball game ever! She had a countless amount of amazing stops and held her own against a top Division I school.
On the attacking end, goals were scored through a balanced attack. Freshman Nikki Boltja started off her fall ball right with no hesitation on going to goal. You could tell the fire in her after she scored by her pizzazz and enthusiasm. It truly is contagious.
The second game started off a bit sloppy, but we were able to pull off another victory. We worked through the ups and downs throughout the game and looked to one another to find a way to get through it. The game was tied until the last couple seconds when we were able to hold out for the last shot and put the ball in the back of the net to win it, 9-8.
Overall, we were pleased with the way we played and that we didn't allow other teams to dictate our style of play. We still have a lot more games to play this fall, allowing us lots of opportunities to improve our game.
This Friday we fly out to Boston to play Boston University, assistant coach Anne Sheridan's alma mater, and participate in the Bean Pot Tournament at Harvard University.
Tune in next week as we continue to improve our game and come home with some victories under our belts!
